Lisa Schaus
Born in Schenectady, New York, 1951.

Lived in Carmel, California. Cartagena, Colombia. Point Barrow, Alaska.
Alexandria, Virginia. The Flathead Valley, Montana. Lake Oswego and Sisters, Oregon. Home has largely been and is still in the Flathead Valley.

I paint because I love the natural world, especially weather and the dramatic part it plays in our lives on earth. I also paint because it is the medium of expression that was used among many of my family members. I was exposed when young, to all forms of art from Hudson River School painters to the abstract expressionists including Helen Frankenthaler, and sculptors like Henry Moore, David Smith, and Anthony Caro while at Bennington College. I have always needed to paint. The desire to paint is deep-seated in a quiet passion, just as is my enjoyment of cooking, gardening, sewing, and continuing to engage in my trade of over 35 years, custom picture framing. I live in the town of Columbia Falls and have my art and framing studio in an historic brick church in town.
I began painting landscapes in oil 50 years ago, and then became a water colorist. Mixed media took my interest quite early in my painting career.
Assemblage, acrylics, mixed media, and pastels have occupied most of the last four decades of my creative time.

I no longer have a web site or full time commercial business. I also discontinued social media. My preference is to remain at peace and engaged with my work. Questions?
