Mya Bessette
I enjoy the play between light, ethereal elements and strong, eroded textures.  My paintings reflect my optimism, but hint at the reality that optimism is a choice, often made in the midst of joyfully chaotic, and sometimes unavoidable adversity.  I’m inspired by the effect that weather and time have on naturally occurring and man-made objects.  In my work, you may find elements of industrial erosion, rust, crumbling concrete, water, storm clouds, and scraped, worn paint, combined with the triumph of vibrant color and light.  I approach each blank canvas with the same sense of drama and excitement I feel when I witness the arrival of a good blizzard or squall…the air is charged, the outcome is only vaguely predictable and I get to surrender to my own intuition.

I grew up on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in Homer, Alaska and now have the fortune of painting from my home studio in Bigfork, MT where I reside with my husband, Cody, two kiddos Nevi and Lex and our golden lab Zuma.
