Elaine Snyder
THE ARTIST: ELAINE SNYDER began sewing doll clothes, completed 10 years of 4-H clothing projects including a tailored jacket & dress by high school graduation (1968).  She graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in clothing & textiles in 1972.  She worked 2 years in New York City as an assistant buyer @ Lord & Taylor.  Moved to Montana in the fall of 1974.  After some research and a few small projects, she made an elk pullover shirt in the early winter of 1975.  She was paid  with hides and began making & quickly selling purses & vests in Kalispell at Hands-In-Motion,  Over the years Elaine has transformed hundreds of tanned deer, antelope, elk, moose, buffalo & ostrich hides into custom made vests, jackets, dresses, capes, shirts, & skirts.  Each is unique: one-of-kind.  WEARABLE ART.  YOUR TANNED HIDES OR MINE.  She maintains a home studio.
IN January 2009, Elaine was inducted into MONTANA’S CIRCLE OF AMERICAN MASTERS as a BUCKSKIN TAILOR by the Montana Arts Council.    SEW BE IT. 
Since 2006 Elaine has been the Leather Clothing Judge at the Rocky Mtn. Leather Trade Show in Sheridan, Wyoming each mid-May at the Holiday Inn.
